These Words Are Haunted reprinted ten of my favorite previously published horror short stories in one hardcover volume, but also included three never-before-seen originals.
When I made my selections in 2001, I decided to add the stories “Do the Dead Care?” (in which a couple is haunted by an aborted fetus), “Making Peace with the Leader” (in which the mustachioed man with wild eyes isn’t quite the one you think), and “The Elvis Syndrome” (in which Frank Sinatra battles Elvis and Jim Morrison) as an inducement for readers to buy the book.
