I rarely write short. But when editor Jennifer Brozek put out a call for the anthology 99 Fleeting Fantasies, asking for stories no longer than 1,000 words, I realized I had an idea on hand which would work perfectly with so few words, and turned in the bittersweet “The Song That Never Ends” at exactly 999 words.
I could have added one more to hit the magic number exactly, but it seemed right the way it was.
